What Is a Dental Exam?
At ACE Dental of Belton, we recommend that patients come in for comprehensive dental exams twice a year so we can evaluate your oral health while checking for various dental conditions that can arise between visits — concerns like tooth decay, periodontal (gum) disease, and signs of oral cancer. We may take digital x-rays to provide a better understanding of issues that are harder to detect. Diagnosing and treating these dental conditions early on usually means minimizing the treatments needed to reverse the conditions. This saves you time, money, and long-term discomfort. Our aim is to help you and your family maintain ideal oral health. If you have not already done so, schedule your family's dental exams at our state-of-the-art dental facility in Belton, TX.
When Should You Get an Oral Cancer Screening?
It's important to screen for oral cancer at least once a year, which is why we screen for the condition during your biannual dental exams at ACE Dental of Belton. During this assessment, we check for tissue irregularities, such as raised or rough patches, sores that bleed easily, and red or white lesions that can occur anywhere in or around your mouth, jaw, head, neck, gums, tongue, and cheeks. If we find any suspicious areas of concern, we may take a biopsy or refer you to a specialist for further care.

Who Should Have a Dental Exam?
At ACE Dental of Belton, we provide dental exams for your whole family: parents, grandparents, toddlers, and teens. The American Dental Association's (ADA) recommends that children undergo their first dental exam before or around their first birthday. Children’s dental exams are especially important because, as they get older, their permanent teeth come in and their jaws develop. No matter what age you are, you should have a routine dental exam at least twice a year.
What Does a Dental Exam Consist of?
At the beginning of your visit, a member of the ACE Dental of Belton team will go over your dental and medical records and discuss anything that may be bothering you. Digital x-rays may be taken at this time to further evaluate your oral health and to check for gingivitis and other possible stages of gum disease. We'll also perform an oral cancer screening. Our team will assess your bite, temporomandibular joints (TMJ), and examine your teeth for any abnormalities. Lastly, we'll check any dental restorations you have, such as fillings or dental crowns, for fit and integrity and make sure they're still effectively serving you.
What Happens After a Dental Exam?
After your exam, we can provide you with guidance on properly maintaining a good daily brushing and flossing routine, as well as other helpful tips for practicing good oral hygiene. If we detect any issues during your visits — such as cavities, gum disease, or other dental conditions — our dental team will go over treatment options to properly address them and most likely schedule a follow-up visit to begin treatment. If not, you can schedule your next preventive dental care visit at our ACE Dental office in Belton, Texas.
Does Insurance Cover Dental Exams?
Most insurance providers cover dental exams under preventive dentistry services. We'll contact your insurance provider to determine whether your exam is covered and if any out-of-pocket expenses may accrue. ACE Dental of Belton accepts several flexible payment solutions for any costs not covered by insurance. As a leading provider of affordable dental care, we'll work to help your family achieve good dental health at a reasonable cost.
